  1. As an Aiven user,
I want to ease the setup of my multi-region infrastructure by creating a single VPC peering for several regions
so that I can avoid creating a several peerings when I'm deploying multi-region services.
This would also solve the VPC quota issue that we can encounter on GCP (25 peerings max per VPC)

  2. As a network engineer
I want to be able to configure custom routes on my project VPC
So that I can manage my network routing policies without contacting Aiven support

  3. As an Aiven customer
I want to be able to decouple privatelink configuration from the service lifecycle
so that I can shut down the service without having to delete the privatelink

  4. As a customer, I want the ability to add networks to my Aiven VPC, so that I can easily extend my existing networks, or move my services to a different network.

  5. As a customer, I want Aiven to expand the number of possible endpoints to connect to using Google PSC, so that I can connect more of my applications and services together.

  6. Due to some limitations on the number of peerings supported by some cloud provider, for an organization with numerous applications and many potential projects associated with each, one option around it would be to configure Aiven VPC at Organizational level.

  7. As an Aiven user,
I want to have the ability to whitelist an IP address for a limited time, eg. in hours, so that I can access the database only within this specified window. The whitelist should automatically update once that time is up.
This would give database access only when needed, and would be beneficial for both network efficiency and security as the whitelist is kept as small as possible, thus also reducing potential attack surface.

  8. As DBA
I want to be able to choose a custom service port
so that I can migrate databases to Aiven without changing the port in the applications connection string.
In addition, this would help to avoid issues with the migration because of wrong ports.

  9. As a developer
I want to use the same VPC in several projects
so that I don't have to recreate it in each project individually

There doesn't seem to be demand for this feature. It was tracked previously and there was no demand. If this comes up again, we can re-open this for gathering interest.

  10. As IT Administrator
I want to have Aiven manage the number of static IP addresses I need for my services.
so that I can not have to deal with it.
In addition, it would be ideal if when creating a service there was just a flag for "Use Static IPs". This is most notable when using privatelink on Azure, as there are potentially a lot of static IPs to be created.

Today, you can only manage static IPs via CLI and API. We are adding two things into the Console UI:

    1. Management of static IPs (along with more networking features).
    2. Building of an end-to-end solution at once which will also provision static IPs.

The second item is prioritized, however the first is not yet.

  11. As a software engineer who often does infra stuff, I want to fully configure our Aiven vnet peering on Azure using terraform, so that we don't loose knowledge of how our infrastructure is configured and so that we can always tear it down and re-create it.

Primarily I'm interested in allow_forwarded_traffic but I think ideally exposing all of the following Azure configurations through the aiven_azure_vpc_peering_connection terraform resource would be ideal.
    allow_virtual_network_access
    allow_forwarded_traffic
    allow_gateway_transit
    use_remote_gateways
    https://registry.terraform.io/providers/hashicorp/azurerm/latest/docs/resources/virtual_network_peering#allow_virtual_network_access

  12. As a Network Engineer, I want to set up multiple PrivateLink connections to Kafka, so that I can privately connect multiple applications, across VPC's, to my Kafka services.
