Support FerretDB as a MongoDB alternative
As a developer looking for an open-source alternative to MongoDB,
I want to use FerretDB to translate MongoDB wire protocol queries to SQL,
so that I can stop using proprietary MongoDB instances.
-
Just noting that while Ferret v1 can be run against Aiven for PostgreSQL by customers today, FerretDB 2.0 now requires the DocumentDB extension https://github.com/FerretDB/FerretDB?tab=readme-ov-file

"As a software engineer, I want to be able to port existing MongoDB workloads to Aiven so that I can maintain my entire data platform in one place.
We utilise MongoDB across a number of Client projects, including our own IP, and it's where over 60% of our data spend goes" -

The open-source community of FerretDB has been incredibly supportive of my contributions. I highly recommend it as an open-source project."

FerretDB > anything. Not just a great product but it's OS + integrates/works with other platforms & products. Def recommend.

This is a good alternative so as not to be dependent on an overly restrictive solution.

As a developer, I want to be able to use MongoDB compatible software on Aiven so that I can avoid having to port my code to another database which is not as well suited to the application.
MongoDB has not evolved since it was left at the current versions and the company began work on Atlas. There are some compatible databases emerging which could be an option for this type of use case, for example Ferret DB.
